Governor Abbott Defends School Choice, Calls for Education Reform

Austin, TX – Governor Greg Abbott reaffirmed his commitment to school choice and pushed back against opposition during his keynote address at the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Texas Policy Summit.

Speaking to over 500 legislative and policy leaders, Abbott emphasized that universal school choice will benefit all Texas families, ensuring education remains fully funded while giving parents greater control over their children’s learning.

“Those who oppose school choice do so because it disrupts their monopoly on education,” Abbott stated. “But we are winning this fight because when opponents resort to misinformation, it means they have no argument left.”

Abbott highlighted key facts about the school choice program, noting that per-student funding is at an all-time high of over $15,000 and that homeschooling families will maintain full curriculum control. He also reaffirmed his commitment to property tax reform, proposing stricter voter approval measures to prevent unnecessary tax hikes.

Additionally, the Governor praised Texas’ border security efforts, pledging continued collaboration with the Trump administration to implement long-term security measures.

Abbott has declared school choice an emergency item this legislative session, reinforcing its priority in his State of the State Address earlier this month. The Texas Policy Summit continues to serve as a platform for discussions on key issues affecting Texans and the nation.
