Eagle Pass, TX - Former Maverick County Precinct 4 Constable and Attorney's Office Investigator Gerardo "Jerry" Chacon was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by the Texas Rangers at the Maverick County Sheriff's Office.
Chacon was initially investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with the assistance of Texas Ranger Joe Sanchez but will be prosecuted by the State for the amount not reaching the $5,000 threshold established by the federal government agency.
The amount of theft is approximately $1,500 but still pending the exact amount.
According to Texas Ranger, Joe Sanchez, Chacon was using his authority as a public servant namely the MCAO investigator to collect fees from insufficient fund check writers and businesses.
This case will be prosecuted by District Attorney Roberto Serna at District Court.
