Del Rio, Texas – On November 16, 2021, at approximately 1432 hours, the Del Rio Police
Department Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call from a male subject requesting an ambulance at his residence located at the 400 block of Rosita Street.
The male caller informed dispatchers that children at the residence had accidentally shot themselves with a gun. Patrol officers responded to the scene and learned the children involved were male, twins, 3 years of age.
The children encountered the unsecured, loaded gun and accidentally discharged the weapon. Preliminary investigation revealed only one round was discharged, causing injuries to both children.
The Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Both children were transported to Val Verde Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Child Protective Services have been notified of the incident. The Criminal Investigation Division informs that the children are in stable condition and expected to recover with no life-threatening injuries.
