Eagle Pass, TX ―Ismael Naveja Macias, Mexican Consul in Eagle Pass and the Deputy Consul, Juan Jose Martinez De La Rosa, hosted Sul Ross State Univ. representatives at the Consulate for a ceremony to celebrate Mexico’s support of Sul Ross students.
Consul Naveja and Dr. Robert Muñoz, Vice President for Administrative Services and Chief Operating Officer at Sul Ross, signed agreements for the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide scholarship funds that benefit Sul Ross students in the Eagle Pass area who are Mexican nationals or those with close ties to Mexico.
A gracious host, the Consul spoke of the vintage typewriters he collects that were displayed in the room where he held the ceremony. He also discussed his idea that Mexican and American citizens with ties to both countries should not choose one over the other. Instead, he suggests that both cultures be embraced equally.
Muñoz said, “Receiving the support and funding for our students is important. What I appreciate even more is the passion that Consul Naveja brings to our community including passion for service and passion for supporting his fellow country men and women through collaborations with Sul Ross State University.”

Ceremonia en Eagle Pass celebra lazos entre Sul Ross y México
Eagle Pass, TX ―Ismael Naveja Macias, Cónsul de México en Eagle Pass y el Cónsul Adjunto, Juan José Martínez De La Rosa, recibió a la Universidad Estatal de Sul Ross. representantes en el Consulado para una ceremonia para celebrar el apoyo de México a los estudiantes de Sul Ross.
El Cónsul Naveja y el Dr. Robert Muñoz, Vicepresidente de Servicios Administrativos y Director de Operaciones de Sul Ross, firmaron acuerdos para el Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME) a través del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores para brindar fondos de becas que beneficien a los estudiantes de Sul Ross en el Águila Área de pase que sean ciudadanos mexicanos o que tengan vínculos estrechos con México.
Amable anfitrión, el Cónsul habló de las máquinas de escribir antiguas que colecciona y que se exhibieron en la sala donde realizó la ceremonia. También habló sobre su idea de que los ciudadanos mexicanos y estadounidenses con vínculos con ambos países no deben elegir uno sobre el otro. En cambio, sugiere que ambas culturas se adopten por igual.
Muñoz dijo: “Es importante recibir el apoyo y la financiación para nuestros estudiantes. Lo que aprecio aún más es la pasión que el Cónsul Naveja aporta a nuestra comunidad, incluida la pasión por el servicio y la pasión por apoyar a sus compatriotas, hombres y mujeres, a través de colaboraciones con la Universidad Estatal de Sul Ross ”.
